Hokay, after considerable effort and research which led nowhere, I asked dad who told me immediately what it was.
It is a species of Gunnera which seems obvious now that I see it on the little sign in the foreground of the photo. I tried to search on what I could read from that little sign but must have misinterpreted the spelling.
Gunnera Manicata to be more precise, native to Brazil and bearing the largest leaf size of the family.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunnera explains about the family.

If forgot to mention that the leaves it is currently showing are baby leaves.

Merci Alex, je savais que je pouvais compter sur toi...ou sur ton père, du moins.
Hope everything's fine for you around Saint Lazare.
Coming back on the first week end of June.
Let me know if you're free for some indian restaurant ;)
